Question 1: What are five words that best describe you?
Cheerful, Ambivert, Considerate, Trusting, Impatient
Question 2: If you still remember, can you share the reason why you chose this company before?
I had no idea what kind of work I wanted to do back then, so I just wanted to grab any opportunity that came my way at that time and Yokogawa opened its doors for a fresh graduate, and a work-wise inexperienced engineer like me.
Question 3: What are the things you like about working here?
Although I did not have reasons why I chose to work in Yokogawa instead of other companies at first, I do have a reason why I chose to stay in the past 7 years — the healthy work environment. Aside from that, I also admired all employees’ culture of respecting everyone’s time; every minute matters so meetings start on time as much as possible.
Question 4: What does it mean for you to be a recipient of the Best Engineer award?
Being awarded as one of the best engineers is such an honor for me. It validates all my efforts in the past months. It proves that all good works will be recognized and will be given credit.
Question 5: Did you expect to receive this award?
I did not expect it especially when I am surrounded by a lot of good engineers in our group. I feel like almost everyone deserves the award.
Question 6: Looking back at your first day working at YTP, did this award cross your mind?
When I learned about this award, of course my initial thought was to also push myself to attain this award someday.
Question 7: How do you find your job?
For the past years, I was able to do different tasks and every task is always a notch higher in terms of difficulty than the previous ones; but I think, looking back, all those challenges moulded me to becoming a more reliable engineer in the company right now. Working in YTP is a combination of doing challenging tasks and difficult projects with reliable and fun to work with people, altogether fulfilling great achievements in our careers.
Question 8: What's next for you? What are your plans?
My plan is to take things step-by-step and conquer all the challenges of the future with the goal of enjoying myself in every step of the way. I also plan to continue being a reliable member of the design team in YTP and give the best of what I can offer.
Question 9: Share some thoughts with aspiring engineers who want to follow in your footsteps.
I think that the secret to longevity is to enjoy what you do and see difficult situations as a challenge to improve yourself.
Question 10: Since you are working in a Japanese company, do you have any favorite Japanese words/phrases?
諦めないで「あきらめないで」--- Don’t give up!
Question 11: If you could travel back in time, specifically on your first day of work here, what would you say to your younger self?
I would say to myself, “Do not pressure yourself too much, everything will fall into place even if you don’t push it too hard, as long as you don’t give up on learning and improving yourself. Good opportunities will come your way, give yourself a breather.”
